Southwest Research Institute houses a state of the art multi-purpose fitness facility with a full court Gymnasium, capitalizing on the adjacency to other outdoor recreational facilities. The primary goal was to relate the exterior and interior elements. The cohesive wave created with glass blocks on the south gymnasium wall coordinate with the curvilinear aspects and geometric lines of walls and floor patterns.  The neutral colors of the facility emphasize simplicity while the patterns throughout the spaces promote the energy. The inspiration for the exterior evolved from a sine wave with data points, creating a contextual relation of a cohesive wave and interlocking pattern with different textures and colors. With a combination of efficiency HVAC equipment, insulated glass, natural lighting, daylight harvesting controls, high efficiency lighting in combination with an energy management system, well insulated roof with high reflectivity and a high performance envelope, recycled and regional materials and an indoor air quality management plan, the building is pursuing LEED certification.
